Brea Project

Owned by:   Power Trust I

Capacity:   5 Megawatts

Location:   Brea, California (near Los Angeles)

Electricity sold to:   Southern California Edison

Fuel source:   Landfill methane gas

Part of the covered landfill can be seen in the background to the left. Methane gas is gathered from the landfill, cleaned up and processed in the equipment in the foreground. The plant was originally built and operated by Getty Synthetic Fuels, a division of Getty Oil.

The project is fueled by landfill methane gas that would otherwise escape into the air and cause severe pollution. The Olinda landfill that the project takes gas from is large enough to support a much larger power project. Ridgewood has negotiated a long-term power purchase agreement and is currently working on plans for the development for a 30 MW turbine driven project.
